Of the news out of Sokcho today, this is the piece of information with the longest shelf life. Sokcho Municipal Museum (속초시립박물관) is recruiting performance teams for the Sunday Little Concert in the second half of 2026, starting today.

The reason this schedule is useful for those traveling here is that 11 a.m. on Sunday is the most awkward hour of a Sokcho trip. Check-out from accommodations is usually 11, it's too early for lunch, and if you head to Seoraksan at that time you get caught in the afternoon congestion. Filling that empty hour at the museum's outdoor stage makes your route clean. See the sea once in the morning, load your bags into the car, stop by the museum near the entrance to Seoraksan, and when the performance ends around 12 noon, have lunch nearby and set off home — that's the order. If you also want to see the indoor exhibits, viewing hours and fees can change from season to season, so checking the museum's information once before visiting is the sure thing.

The way 속초어때 sees it, stages like this mostly go unused because the notice slipped by quietly, and rarely because people weren't qualified.
Today in 상도문 (Sangdomun) Village, rice-paddy work songs were sung
On the same day, on another side of Sokcho, there was an event with a somewhat different texture. 속초문화원 (Sokcho Cultural Center) and 속초도문농요보존회 (Sokcho Domun Nongyo Preservation Society) held a public performance of Sokcho Domun Nongyo (속초도문농요) in the Sangdomun Village area on the 14th. Sokcho Mayor Lee Byung-sun attended along with residents, and the mayor expressed an intention to keep paying attention to preserving and passing on Domun Nongyo, which holds the lives and community spirit of earlier generations.
Domun Nongyo are songs that were sung while working the rice paddies around the Sangdomun area. The name isn't familiar to tourists, but Sangdomun Village is an old village sitting on the road into Seoraksan, so it's also a neighborhood worth a brief stop on the way to Seoraksan. Today's event is already over, so just keep in mind that this kind of public performance is usually held once a year, and catch it when next year's schedule comes out.

- September 16 (Wed)–20 (Sun) · Seafood rebate at 속초 관광수산시장 (Sokcho Gwangwang Susan Market) — Gangwon State is running it for 5 days at three places: 도래미시장 (Doraemi Market) in Wonju, 황지자유시장 (Hwangji Jayu Market) in Taebaek, and 속초 관광수산시장 in Sokcho. Buy domestic seafood and bring the same day's receipt to the rebate booth inside the market, and you get back up to 30% of the purchase amount in 온누리상품권 (Onnuri Gift Certificates). 34,000 KRW or more but under 67,000 KRW gets 10,000 KRW, and 67,000 KRW or more gets 20,000 KRW, with a limit of 20,000 KRW per person. Seafood paid for with Zero Pay Susan Daejeon gift certificates, government-stockpiled items, and imported products are excluded, so check whether it's domestic before you pay.
- September 19 (Sat) · A special screening that pairs film with food — an event prepared by 속초문화관광재단 (Sokcho Culture and Tourism Foundation). It's an event with a set capacity, so if you're interested, keep an eye on the foundation's notices.
- Through September 30 · Special event for Hometown Love Donation thank-you gifts — Sokcho City is running it for Chuseok. Note, however, that under the Hometown Love Donation system you cannot donate to the local government where your address is registered, so Sokcho residents cannot donate to Sokcho. This is an item for people from outside who have ties to Sokcho.
- Already closed — the livelihood recovery support payment has ended. 96.5% of those eligible claimed 15.3 billion KRW.
For those moving tonight and tomorrow
Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15, the Gangwon east coast is forecast to be mostly cloudy. In Gangwon's mountain areas raindrops will fall in places between dawn and morning, but the amount is very small, under 0.1 mm. It isn't enough rain to open an umbrella, but if you're heading up Seoraksan at dawn, just factor in that the rocks and decks may be wet.
